FEBRUARY 8 — MARCH 3, 2014
HIERARCHY is pleased to present North West by DECOY. North West is a compilation of paintings and stories inspired by DECOY's life as an artist and art educator in Washington, D.C. She sites the children that she works with as a huge blessing - from picking them up after school to learning how to roller skate in Anacostia Park. She truly believes in them and is constantly inspired by their creativity, strength and style.
Titled North West, this exhibit stands for the quadrant of the city where the children are from, symbolizes hip hop culture, and, of course, references Kanye West's baby name.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
DECOY is a Washington, D.C. based artist. Born near Brussels, Belgium, she spent most of her childhood in the villages of Europe. Her work focuses on the intersection of figures with color and space. She is especially passionate about recording her immediate surroundings concentrating on the situations, people, and places that form daily interaction. The images chosen leave a lasting impression and inspire the resulting work, which is generally a distorted reflection of the original idea. Her motive is not to copy life, but to express her memory of it.
She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Berry College in Rome, GA and has studied in Florence, Italy at Studio Arts Centers International and Fuji Studios.
